
Belmont Desalination Plant
Kestrel Fibre and Composites Australia supplied GFRP concrete reinforcement for the Belmont Desalination Plant in New South Wales, a major water infrastructure project supporting long term water security for the Lower Hunter region.
Kestrel supplied straight and custom bent GFRP bars up to 25 mm in diameter for four reinforced concrete caisson rings, each approximately 15 metres in diameter and 4 metres high.
The caissons were constructed using a Form – Reo – Pour methodology, with the lightweight GFRP reinforcement installed within the formwork prior to each concrete pour. GFRP was ideally suited to the application due to its high strength, low weight and inherent corrosion resistance, providing a durable reinforcement solution for the demanding desalination and marine environment.
The project showcases Kestrel's capability to manufacture and supply large-scale, project specific GFRP reinforcement solutions, including both straight and custom fabricated bars for critical Australian infrastructure.
