Maidstone Tram Depot Upgrade

Kestrel Fibre and Composites Australia (Kestrel) provided design input and supplied custom GFRP pultruded profiles for the Maidstone Tram Depot Upgrade in Victoria.

Kestrel supplied more than 800 metres of GFRP fence line, using I-beam sections as posts, L-profiles as fence rails and a purpose-designed W-shaped picket. All components were manufactured with pre-drilled assembly holes, allowing the fence line to be assembled and installed rapidly on site with minimal fabrication or adjustment.

GFRP was particularly well suited to a tram depot environment, where stray electrical currents are present. As a dielectric material, GFRP does not conduct electricity, removing the electrocution and earthing risks associated with steel fencing and improving overall safety on site both during and after installation. The lightweight, corrosion-resistant profiles also reduce long-term maintenance compared with conventional steel or galvanised fencing.
